Malcolm Hi'Keem Hollingsworth

My government name is Malcolm Hi'Keem Hollingsworth I was born January 19th 1995 named after Malcolm Jamal Warner and my stage name is Bright Child. My mother's name is Lisa Cloud, (she is my world). She has been through so much, three stokes putting her in the hospital, and two more the following year put her in a wheel chair. It was very hard at first, but my sister Nika and I are helping her through it. She is learning how to walk again, and we are helping her around the house, and we can depend on our grandma when we need her the most. This is my loving family, and to me we deserve better.

I was born in Atlanta, GA. and lived in Carver Homes for about eight years. After I graduated from Kipp Ways Academy, I started high school at Carver School of the Arts. I begin writing poetry in the 5th grade, and then I begin to rap in the 6th grade after my Mom was in the hospital. Growing up mostly listening to gangster music, I started listening to Old School, R&B, Pop, and even rock. I begin to listen to music because I understand it more than anything else.

Music is now apart of me. My writing will give you something to feel and /or think about. I am asking for my listeners to have an open mind to what I have to say. I love music and if you love good music as much as I do, than I know you will love my writing. And listening to music to day, I know for a fact I have what it take to be the next Big thing (I write every day).

Katie Ferrara - The Mini Concert Series

This month I'm going to Austin to play at SXSW! Check out my tour dates here! I just finished making the flyer. :-) 

In other news, the Beat Buddy Guitar Pedal has released the video I made for them on Youtube! Last month they put it up on their facebook page and it got over 1,000 likes. I am working on more pedal demos at the moment so stay tuned for those. The Beat Buddy is a Drum Machine Pedal I use for songwriting, and practicing guitar. I basically can control the drum beat as I play a song. Check out the video for more info. This video is also featured on the Beat Buddy Website at http://mybeatbuddy.com/

This year I have also been playing at a lot of flea markets and farmer's markets in LA including the Melrose Trading Post, Altadena Farmer's Market, and So Cal Etsy Guild and I have caught the attention of an online magazine called Roots Revival Co! The magazine features small businesses, artists, musicians, and handmade crafts! With that said, I have an idea to start a blog on my website about my experience street performing. It will include info about where to busk, how to set up, what to bring, what songs to play, and what gear to buy!

NEWS   ASCAP is the First PRO in the World to Report $1 Billion in Revenues   Delivers historic high royalty distributions of over $883 million to its songwriter, composer and publisher members New York, NY, March 3, 2015: ASCAP today became the first PRO in the world to announce record-breaking revenues of more than $1 billion for calendar year 2014. ASCAP also delivered historic high royalty distributionsof over $883 million to its songwriter, composer and music publisher members, up $32.3 million, a nearly 4% increase from 2013. In addition to historical revenues and record breaking distributions to its members, the number of musical performances captured, identified, matched and processed for payment by ASCAP doubled from 250 billion in 2013 to 500 billion in 2014. Unlike its competitors, ASCAP is an unincorporated membership association and operates on a not-for-profit basis, distributing all revenues after deducting its operating expenses, currently at one of the lowest overhead rates in the world at 12.6%. ASCAP President Paul Williams (pictured above left) commented: “Our songwriter and composer members depend on ASCAP to earn a living and it is our job to advocate and protect their rights across all media. We maintain a strong presence in Washington, D.C. to ensure they are fairly compensated for their creative work, which is the engine driving the entire industry. I am very gratified that we were able to deliver such strong financial results for the talented women and men who call ASCAP home. From our point of view, if we can ensure fair market rates for our members by working with the Department of Justice to modernize our outdated Consent Decree, then everyone wins – music creators, licensees and fans -- because the value of collective licensing is that strong.” “ASCAP had an incredibly successful 2014. We worked extremely hard and continually innovated in order to maximize the financial opportunities for our members in the face of an evolving and increasingly competitive global landscape. We implemented new revenue growth strategies and productivity improvement initiatives in order to deliver the best collective licensing value proposition at the lowest possible cost for all stakeholders,” said ASCAP CEO Elizabeth Matthews (pictured above right). “Our 2014 financial results clearly demonstrate that collective licensing is the most efficient licensing model available to creators and music licensees alike. The collective can accommodate big data growth of extreme scale at the lowest cost while also providing access to a broad, diverse and high quality repertory of music.” ASCAP represents the most in demand, high quality repertory of music in the world, including 10 million works by more than 525,000 music creators including the musical compositions of 2015 GRAMMY winners Beyoncé, Beck, Jay Z, St. Vincent, Kendrick Lamar, Max Martin and Rubén Blades and contemporary hitmakers such as Katy Perry, Iggy Azalea, Romeo Santos, Jessie J, Aloe Blacc, Sia, Meghan Trainor, Lady Antebellum, Lorde, Dr. Luke, Diplo, Calvin Harris and Brandy Clark. In 2014, ASCAP was able to hit historic high revenues and distributions by breaking new ground in licensing operations, business efficiencies, and advocacy. Highlights include: ASCAP grew revenue across nearly all platforms in 2014, for an overall increase of $57 million, or 6%. Domestic revenue was up 6.7% and revenue from foreign societies was up 4.9%. ASCAP dramatically expanded its surveys of the most significant digital streaming services in 2014, including Apple iRadio, Pandora, Rhapsody and Spotify. The number of writers paid for performances on these services increased by 9X from 2013. ASCAP identified more than 1.3 million unique works played on those services, 30 times more than in 2013. CIO Magazine recognized the organization with a CIO 100 Award for technological innovation for its proprietary Audio Performance Management (APM) system, which receives information about music played on the radio and via internet services and processes this data to determine royalty distributions to ASCAP members. APM is capable of matching 6X more performances per hour than the previous system. ASCAP’s commitment to fostering the music stars of tomorrow yielded major successes. ASCAP Song Camps were the birthplace for the Miranda Lambert ft. Carrie Underwood single "Something Bad," by Chris DeStefano, Brett James and Priscilla Renea, which hit #1 on the country charts; Jacob Latimore’s first 2014 single "Heartbreak Heard Round the World,” written by Johntá Austin, Shea Taylor and Martin Johnson; and five songs recorded by La Original Banda El Limón written at the ASCAP Song Camp songs in Mazatlán, Mexico. Meanwhile, ASCAP Nashville’s innovative GPS (Guidance from Publishers for Songwriters) Project resulted in publishing deals for three 2014 participants. Over 30% more live shows were processed through ASCAP’s OnStage program, which gives ASCAP members a simple way to submit set lists and receive royalties for shows in ASCAP-licensed venues. ASCAP led advocacy efforts to protect the future livelihoods of all its songwriter and publisher members through its efforts to update the ASCAP Consent Decree with the Department of Justice. ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams gave compelling testimony to protect songwriters before the June 25th House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on music licensing. Over 40,000 new members joined ASCAP in 2014, a 33% increase as compared to 2013.
