Don Rousell is truly an artist. He's primarily a electric bass player and if you ask....he'll tell you that "I dabble on the piano a little" . Which is where he writes, arranges and composes most of his music.

Did I mention that Don also sings and is on a "never ending quest" to improve his skills as a vocalist. Skills like phrasing, breath control and the all important vibrato.

Don's interests are all over the place. This is what makes him an artist and definitely independant. His musical intrests include Contemporary Christian music, Gospel, Rythym and Blues, Jazz, Funk, Rock and Classical music.

Frankly if he likes it ...he may very well write it and record it.

(Duncan Hopkins, Nikki Iles and Thierry Peala)
Title: Voyageur
Label: Indie
Genre: Jazz

"Beautiful Duncan, Nikki and Thierry! I’m listening to it slowly, one tune a day. Savouring it like a book! “All is well” is gorgeous."
Musician Roy Styffe

Canadian composer and double bassist Duncan Hopkins has collaborated with two special musicians in Europe: vocalist Thierry Peala from Paris, France and pianist Nikki Iles from
London, UK. During his time in Europe he has composed nine new compositions for this recording - including lyrics. In addition, while traveling through the Netherlands for a concert, he heard the haunting spiritual “Wayfaring Stranger” on the radio and knew he had to record this lesser known but classic spiritual.

"St.Catharines has given the jazz world one important composer...Kenny Wheeler. It may have another one ... in the person of Duncan Hopkins"
Author and jazz critic Mark Miller (Globe and Mail)

Duncan has worked with Dianna Krall, Mark Murphy, Norma Winstone, Lester Bowie, Kenny Wheeler, John Hicks, Peter Appleyard, Ken Peplowski, Ed Bickert, D.D. Jackson, Scott Hamilton, Houston Person, Warren Vache, Sam Rivers, George Masso, Tony Malaby, Bobo Stenson and arrangers Robert Farnon and Ralph Carmichael to name but a few.

"Magnifiques Duncan, Nikki et Thierry! J'écoute une chanson par jour, le savourant tel un livre! "All is well" est magnifique." - Roy Styffe, musicien
